RRL Grindrod (www.rrlgrindrod.co.za)

RRL Grindrod is a joint venture between Solethu Investments (Pty) Ltd and Grindrod Holding South Africa (Pty) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Grindrod Limited. The company is 51% black owned and is a level 2 rated empowerment company.

RRL Grindrod was formed out of an existing business, RRL Holdings (Proprietary) Limited, and provides locomotive full maintenance leasing, rail operations and shunting services to its clients. These services include inbound and outboard rail management, building of train sets, rail maintenance, loading / offloading of rail wagons and the management of its clients' relationship with Transnet Freight Rail to ensure the smooth running of their rail operations. RRL Grindrod also provides locomotive maintenance and has the capacity to refurbish its clients' locomotives.

The company is committed to becoming the leading supplier of outsourced rail related services in South Africa. With Grindrod's backing, RRL Grindrod has the financial strength to grow the business and to give clients piece of mind. In addition, RRL Grindrod is able to utilise the Grindrod Group's existing footprint and logistics expertise to provide clients with a seamless logistics solution in the movement of bulk commodities from pit to port.

RRL Grindrod intends growing its locomotive fleet in order to continue to support and grow its client base and to position itself to capitalise on business opportunities arising from rail restructure in South Africa.

RRL Grindrod wishes to position itself to be able to participate in public-private partnerships, feeder services to Transnet Freight Rail and branch-line concessioning. RRL Grindrod is hopeful that Transnet will bring these types of opportunities to the market, in light of the current financial crisis.
